Easter Mantel
|
Real Daisy flowers, artificial Easter flowers with eggs, and the frames I painted and distressed. |
|
Kitty Sheba sits here, it was worth a picture!
It is nice and warm and she is the center of attention!
Do you remember these? |
|
My Grandmother made these from Xmas Cards, these baskets were popular in the 60's and 70's. This Grandmother decided to do one with Easter cards. |
|
I made my pattern 4 inches on the bottom and 4 1/2 on the sides.
There are patterns online search Christmas Card Baskets.
Just place the template over the area you like on your cards.
Cut out 12 cards and you will need one large card or I used poster board for the bottom of the basket. |
|
The Bottom is also 4 inches on the sides, I just marked with pencil marks for the holes to sew your blanked stitch. for the cards I made from tracing paper a template to mark for holes.
I found the easiest way to make my holes was with a nail, light weight hammer and of course a piece of wood for underneath.
Just tape, tape! |
|
Make sure and pair up your cards and tap your holes so they line up for sewing. I put a little stick glue in the middle of cards
to hold in place and very small scotch tape on top and bottom
of tracing paper.
|
|
To make it easier for your yarn, use your yarn needle and completely go through the hole. |
|
Sew Blanket Stitch around each pair of cards and your bottom.
Then attach the bottom first with thread. I used transparent thread first, not a good idea, hard time threading, and keeping track of the thread. Aggravation and a few bad words said, before I finished it with matching yellow thread. |
|
Finish and I added from one of the cards an Easter Greeting in egg shape, just stick glued on. Now, Grandma did not do that, or use Easter Cards! |
|
I put a plant inside, thinking, what am I going to put inside?
Easter grass of some type and of course Chocolate would do!
Now on to the Scrapy, Decoupage, Quilted Easter Eggs |
|
I have a lot of fabric scraps from quilting and sewing, This little box is nothing, I don't throw away anything!
In the sewing room going through my drawers of stuff, it came to me to do Easter Eggs with scraps? |
|
First I poked a hole in each end of the eggs, blew them out, and almost my tonsils, until I got the hang of it! The little pieces of fabric cover the holes, just spread Elmer glue on, take a scrap, place where you want and put more glue on top. Using your fingers, its fun and easy to slide the pieces around, a warm rag is good for your hands, I wished my grand kids were here for this one!
Happy Spring and Easter
Take Care,

Yes, I remember those greeting card boxes. You did a great job on yours. Your Grandma would be proud.
Blessings,

I always wondered how they made those baskets. Other than taking them apart I would have never thought to get a pattern off the internet :) You did a great job. I love your cat!
What a sweet pic of Kitty Sheba! That is absolutely something our little Abby would do -- she loves to "photo bomb!" I remember those little baskets -- actually gave a little nostalgic tug at my heart when I saw yours. I just may have to try my hand at making some! Cute, cute ideas with the baskets and the adorable quilted eggs!
